Suicide is a huge problem for Canadian society. Every year we lose people, young and old, who could have been helped. Mental health is not always visible and that is why it has never been more important to know the signs and work to prevent tragedy before it happens. If you have lost someone to suicide, it can be confusing and shocking. These links talk about suicide prevention, lowering the national rate and helping those who have lost someone to suicide. 
The Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) was launched in 1985 by a group who saw the need to provide information and resources to communities to reduce the suicide rate and minimize the harmful consequences of suicidal behaviour. Chance's Spot provides an online support forum, publications on pet loss, hotline numbers, and referrals to anyone who needs help to cope with with the grief associated with the death of a pet. Locally, Chance's Spot provides educational presentations on the topic of pet loss to pet caregivers, pet care professionals and rescue and shelter workers. Area shelters, veterinarians and rescue groups also receive support and information about compassion fatigue - the stress resulting from caring for and helping traumatized animals on a daily basis.
