Cemeteries & Death Care
We've all seen a cemetery before. Whether we have attended a service at one or driven by one in our daily lives - we at least all know what they look like. And just like other parts of the funeral business, cemeteries are largely misunderstood. You see, cemeteries are just like other Canadian businesses. They have staff and plenty of coordination goes into making the whole thing work together. Cemeteries are far more than just the perfect backdrop for local ghost stories, they are an important part of the funeral industry in Canada
The many faces of a Cemetery
Cemetery's are their own ecosystem, with multiple different roles that many people don't know exist. For example, there are horticultural teams, those responsible for digging graves and counsellors for families. There is far more than meets the eye about these places. Check out some people that come to work every day in Canadian cemeteries alongside other roles that help this industry run.
Cemetery Facts
Did you know that cemeteries in Canada fall under provincial and not federal jurisdiction? Also, there is more than one type of cemetery. Some are corporate owned, some are private owned and others are owned by the local church. Each cemetery, although all contain classic headstones, have different designs and features. Some have gardens, some are new and others have been around for over 100 years. One thing all cemeteries have in common, though, is that they are not what you think they are - but rather places for people to gather, share memories and visit their deceased family members.
